Hamura Zoo

The other day, Peter was on a bike ride and so I needed a nice, short outing between Bennett's naps that was close to home.  So, we went to the Hamura Zoo and it was perfect!  It's a cute little zoo (although it's got nothin' on the Singapore Zoo) that is great for getting some sunshine, letting the kids run around, and they even have the funniest little "petting zoo" area with baby chicks and guinea pigs!  So Japanese.  And so funny.

The kids loved it, especially the petting zoo, which really surprised me.  Usually my kids don't really like to get too close to animals, and they rarely like to touch them, but they loved the chicks and guinea pigs!  Will was all over it.  He didn't even want to leave!  Benny also seemed to love the chicks and guinea pigs, however, I had to keep an eye and a hand on him at all times to make sure those little guys didn't get mauled!

Kickin' it in SA: The San Antonio Zoo

San Antonio has one of the best zoos I've ever been to. It's not huge, but it's awesome. With a great variety of animals, a petting zoo, and a water/beach area for kids, there's fun to be had throughout the year. We seriously love going to the zoo.

My favorite part about the SA Zoo has to be the hippos. They are soooo incredible. I wish I had a better picture, but they are the most fascinating creatures. If you're in the area, make sure to go to the zoo in the afternoon so that you can catch the hippo feeding demonstration at 3pm. I really wish I had a picture to show their gigantic mouths popping out of the water, but just take my word! It's so awesome to see!

During the summer, beat the heat in the Nature Spot. There's an indoor area for little ones to play around and to make crafts, and then outside there's a beach and water area for kids to splash around in. During the summer, we made a few visits to the zoo and only went to this spot! They love it!

At the very back of the zoo, they even have a small petting zoo with huge pot-belly pigs and goats. But the best part about it is that the kids don't feed the animals, they're only allowed to brush them! It's sooo much better than feeding!

And don't forget to visit the rhino, bears, elephants, zebras, ant eaters, exotic birds, butterfly exhibit, aquarium, monkeys, and jungle cats! We love the SA ZOO!
