Kickin' it in SA: Wurstfest 2013

Wurstfest: The best wurst festival around! For our most recent Kickin' it in SA activity, we went to Wurstfest in New Braunfels, which only happens once a year. And it's awesome. All the bratwurst and fried food you can eat! Not to mention live polka music, lederhosen, and carnival rides for the kids.  (And, just like any German celebration, they have a ton of beer as well, but we're not beer drinkers in this family, so we enjoyed the brats and atmosphere instead!)

For their annual festival, the city of New Branfels has a huge venue. The outside (shown above) is decked out in gigantic murals of traditional German scenes of folks eating brats and dancing to polka music. And the inside (below) has wall to wall vendors selling the most delicious German snacks.

And, you can't forget to take time to enjoy some of the live polka music. In the picture below, the band was playing their own polka version of "Margaritaville" that had lyrics about drinking too much during Wurstfest :) It was very entertaining.

We've gone to Wurstfest for the last two years, and we especially love going because it's a lot of fun for the kids. They have a bunch of carnival rides that William especially enjoys, but it's also set along the river and so they have plenty of grass and sidewalks to run around and enjoy the scenery while we eat our brats on a stick!
